This is a cute idea, and it's fun to have something short to read each week – but there's not much actual content in it, and the info that it does contain is often outdated or just plain incorrect. I would not buy this again.
I personally have this book and have given it as gifts to 2 first time moms. It had nice medical info about pregnancy, similar to what to expect and the bump weekly break downs. Also has "from the trenches" section where you hear from real moms. Helpful hints, funny antidotes and MD advice throughout. Talks about different forms of conception and even runs past due date for babies that aren't ready yet.I really enjoyed that there is a page for each day of pregnancy. The only downfall I found was that I waited until I was 10 weeks to get the book, so you miss a ton in the beginning, or it doesn't apply to you. But the recipients of my gifts have both enjoyed it, despite them being 12 weeks already.
While pregnant I was not into reading any and every pregnancy book. I find all the information to be overwhelming at times so I had the attitude of less is more. With that being said I thought this book provided just the right amount of fun information for me to keep reading. It is divided into days and weeks. I would read it every week to see what was going on and what to expect. I loved the real advice from other moms in a manageable amount and format.
I love a good sense of humor, and I really did laugh out loud at a few of these toward the beginning... but now, a few weeks after owning this, I feel like I'm reading the same thing week after week. How many different ways can you say "HAH! You're puking your brains out!", "It's okay to miss alcohol and coffee, really!", "Your hormones are crazy so it's okay to be happy and sad within a split second!" or "Yeah, your husband isn't getting any for a quite a while, hahaha!". Somehow these four sentiments have been presented over the last few weeks ad nauseum.If you were to believe that these jokes represent the average pregnancy, it's a wonder anyone would choose to have a second child. (And most of the exaggerations aren't even close to reality, for me anyway.)Overall, a good gift to give a girlfriend and funny at times... but it gets extremely repetitive.
I love this book! It’s not too informative (which I like) it keeps a positive energy on your pregnancy rather then lecturing you about stuff. It’s nice because I feel like this book knows your already reading about what you should and shouldn’t be doing and just makes a fun observation about your pregnancy in general! I love the once a day reading! Though we save up and read a whole week at a time instead.
I'm not a fan of this book. I find that it's not informative enough and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. There is only about 1/2 page of text per day of pregnancy and many times, the text doesn't relate to me (i.e. mature pregnancy, at risk pregnancy, testing tips, etc.). For me, I'd rather be able to skip chapters that don't matter for my pregnancy and then read in depth the chapters that do relate. I bought my husband the Expectant Father book and that one has a lot of great detail and insight but still presented in a way that's easy and engaging to read.
I like that this book isn't all glowy and saccharine like a lot of pregnancy books are. It isn't preachy which I also like. It feels real and validating. I like the injections of snark at times too. I'm not a blissful pregnant lady so I don't like the syrupy types of books.
Bought this as a gift for my sister. She’s not much of a reader but absolutely loves the advice and stories in this book and will tell me whenever something really excites her. She’s almost 5 months into her pregnancy and has already told me she wants to give me the book when I get pregnant!
